Highland Speedway 2013 Racing Season Announcements
After careful consideration and thought, Highland Speedway has decided to make some changes to the nightly classes that we run at the speedway for the 2013 racing season. The goal of Highland Speedway is to provide the fans and competitors exciting racing action. We all know that a low car count does not help contribute to exciting racing action. We greatly appreciate all the drivers, teams, and fans that have supported the Highland Speedway for the last 51 years. It is because of people like you we have had great racing and we are looking forward more great racing for the next 50+ years! We are excited about these changes and we are looking forward to a great 2013 racing season.
Crate Class: With the limited number of crates that have ran at Highland Speedway consistently the past 2 years we have decided to enter a partnership with TriCity Speedway to create a Crate Series and points fund to benefit our crate drivers and increase the number of competitors for this class. This Crate Series will run once a month over the same weekend at these tracks. The goal of this decision is to increase the car count in the Crate class and make for exciting competitive racing action.
This decision was not entered into lightly. We think that this is a great solution to keep the crate class running at Highland. We will also be running the Crate Class at Highland Speedway on a rotating schedule, due to the amount of local cars that have chosen to follow other traveling crate series and not run at Highland on a weekly basis, when their class was offered on a weekly basis. We are excited about this partnership and look forward to a great racing season.
Hornet Class: The Hornet class has not stayed in line with the vision that we had for this class when it was initially started. Therefore Highland Speedway will not be running a hornet class for the 2013 racing season. There are many reasons behind this decision; including that the economics of this class have gotten out of hand and the car count on this class have decreased as the costs to be competitive in this class have risen. We also pay attention to when drivers and teams make comments to track personal and on public forums that state that they will not be returning to the Highland Speedway and are taking them into consideration as well.
This class was intended to be an entry level class for people to gain experience and confidence and then move on to another class, it was never intended to be a career class. This class was intended to be an economical class, however now there are teams out there spending more and more on wraps, motors, upgrades, after market products, etc. The only thing any team should go above and beyond spending in this class is on safety equipment!
Our intentions are to bring this class back in a few years, as a stock class. The goal of this decision is to get this class back to what it was originally intended to be. Stock meaning working radio, rear tail lights, no fancy wraps, no upgrades, no after market products of any kind, etc. There will be a limit on length of time you are allowed to stay in this class. It will not be a career class. It will be what it was originally intended to be, a place for new racers to learn, gain confidence, and it will be economical.
Micros: We are excited to announce that we will be adding an Outlaw Winged Micro class to Highland Speedway for the 2013 season. This new addition will be running on a rotating schedule due to a number of teams that follow traveling series. We are excited to make this announcement and look forward to the new fans it will bring to the Highland Speedway. This class looks like it will be a good fit for Highland Speedway as it will provide exciting open wheel racing action and there are a good number of Micros already established in this area. We have met with several of the teams and they are also excited about this addition to out 2013 racing season.
Other Announcements: We have been hard at work, trying to find ways to bring everyone a better show. With that in mind we have made the following changes for the 2013 racing season. We are reducing the number of classes we run a night. As many of you know we are up against a curfew with the city of Highland. We have decided to run 5 classes a night. This will help allow us to get done racing at a reasonable hour and will allow everyone to either get home earlier or visit with drivers and teams after the races. KidzMods will be racing during intermission; this will allow us to stay on a reasonable time schedule. Race receivers are mandatory for the following classes: Late Models, Modifieds, Crates, Micros, and KidzMods. It is strongly suggested that the SportMods and Street Stocks also have race receivers. This will make for quicker, more efficient lineups and restarts. The classes and points funds that will be running at Highland Speedway are as follows: Late Models, Modifieds, SportMods, Street Stocks, Crates, Micros, and KidzMods.
